Winter Break Hours & Closings

Winter in DuPage county sceneThe Library will have additional closings and reduced hours over COD's Winter Break between Dec. 15 and Jan. 18.

The full list of closings and reduced hours is as follows:

  • Saturday, Dec. 15, and Sunday, Dec. 16: Closed
  • Monday, Dec. 17 - Friday, Dec. 21: 7:30 am - 4:30 pm
  • Saturday, Dec. 22, through Tuesday, Jan. 1: Closed
  • Wednesday, Jan. 2 - Friday, Jan. 4: 7:30 am - 4:30 pm
  • Saturday, Jan. 5, and Sunday, Jan. 6: Closed
  • Monday, Jan. 7 - Friday, Jan. 11: 7:30 am - 4:30 pm
  • Saturday, Jan. 12, and Sunday, Jan. 13: Closed
  • Monday, Jan. 14: Closed for Library In-Service Activities
  • Tuesday, Jan. 15 - Friday, Jan. 18: 7:30 am - 4:30 pm
  • Saturday, Jan. 19: Regular Spring hours begin

Note the Library is also closed Monday, January 21, for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

Thanksgiving Break Hours

ThanksgivingThe Library will be closed from Thursday, Nov. 22 - Sunday, Nov. 25, for Thanksgiving Break. We will also close early at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 21. Normal hours resume Monday, Nov. 26.

Exterior Library Entrance Construction

The exterior entrance at the northeast corner of the SRC Building, outside of the 2nd floor entrance to the Library, will be closed for renovations from Thursday, October 18, 2018, through January 18, 2019.

For the duration of the construction project, the alternate entry to the north side of the SRC Building will be through SRC door #1. SRC door #1 is located west of SRC door #2, near the Bookstore entrance. You will then need to use the stairs or the elevator inside door #1 to access the second level.

As always, we thank you for your patience and cooperation during this construction.

Interim Hours & Closings, Aug. 3 - Aug. 19

ClockBetween our Summer and Fall semesters, the Library is closed on weekends and has reduced hours during the week.

Here is a full list of our hours and closings until the start of the Fall semester:

  • Friday, Aug. 3, Saturday, Aug. 4, and Sunday, Aug. 5: Closed
  • Monday, Aug. 6 - Thursday, Aug. 9: 7:30 am - 4:30 pm
  • Friday, Aug. 10, Saturday, Aug. 11, and Sunday, Aug. 12: Closed
  • Monday, Aug. 13 - Friday, Aug. 17: 7:30 am - 4:30 pm
  • Saturday, Aug. 18, and Sunday, Aug. 19: Closed
  • Monday, Aug. 20: Fall semester hours begin

Summer Hours

Summer hoursThe Library's regular Summer hours are in effect as of Tuesday, May 29. These hours are in effect until Sunday, August 5. Regular summer weekly hours are:

  • Monday: 7:30 am - 10:00 pm
  • Tuesday: 7:30 am - 10:00 pm
  • Wednesday: 7:30 am - 10:00 pm
  • Thursday: 7:30 am - 10:00 pm
  • Friday: Closed
  • Saturday: Closed
  • Sunday: Noon - 6:00 pm

Also note these two changes to our regular hours:

  • The Library is open Friday, June 1, from 7:30 am - 4:30 pm
  • The Library is closed Wednesday, July 4, for Independence Day.

COD graduationThe Library will have a number of closings and reduced hours between the Spring and Summer semesters. Our schedule between May 19 and May 28 is as follows:

National Library Week 2018

National Library Week

Monday, April 9th

Take Note of the Library!
Staff at all Library service desks will be handing out packs of index cards to students. Great for finals prep!

Tuesday, April 10th

READ Day
In collaboration with Learning Commons, the Library will reach out to students at all campus locations. The Library will “Pop-Up” at both main campus Learning Commons locations and librarians will be at all four Centers sharing information about Library services with candy and giveaways at midday.
Times:
11:00am – 1:00pm: Learning Commons
12:00pm – 2:00pm: Westside Learning Commons
5:30pm – 6:30 pm: Learning Commons
Various times 11:00am -1:00pm: COD Centers

Critical Thinking Workshop: The Health Connection – with Debra Smith
Whether you are debating trying a new diet plan, taking a prescribed medication or wondering if the latest health & wellness research findings apply to you, critical thinking skills are essential. Questions are the answers to today’s convoluted health care system. Come to this session for tips on applying critical thinking principles to common health and wellness situations.
Time: 1:00pm - 1:45pm (SRC 3104)

Wednesday, April 11th

Lynda Demonstration
Visitors can see a running demonstration of content included in Lynda on a screen in the Lower Level Lobby. Lynda bookmarks and sign up instructions will be available as well.
Time: 7:30am – 10:00am (Library Lower Level)

Digital Media Petting Zoo
Visitors can stop by to see some of the great equipment available for check out in the Media Lab. Test drive the 360 camera, try out Google cardboard VR headsets, or jump into our green screen photo shoot!
Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm (Library Lower Level)

Introduction to Virtual Reality Workshop - with Colin Koteles
Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) have hit the mainstream--it's now easy and affordable to experience and use virtual environments for yourself. Attend this workshop to learn how virtual and augmented reality is being used in education, entertainment, and many other aspects of daily life; learn how to get started experiencing virtual reality environments, and even get some hands-on experience using simple VR devices.
Time: 12:00pm – 1:00pm (SRC 3114)

Thursday, April 12th

Coffee Service
Visitors can stop by the Refuel Station with coffee and tea service all morning and add their thoughts to our comment board.
Time: 9am - (Library Lower Level)

Pop Up Library and Cookies
The Library will be popping up at Campus Central and in honor of National Library Week and we’ll be bringing cookies! Yay libraries!
Time: 11:00am – 12:00pm (SSC Atrium)

Friday, April 13th

Introduction to Infographics Workshop – with Colin Koteles
Visual representations of data--infographics--effectively communicate research, ideas, and stories.  As Killer Infographics CEO Amy Balliett writes, "a quality infographic packages a great story with great design, which leads to an enthralling piece of content worth sharing." In this workshop you'll get a brief introduction to different types of visual communication, how to use data to craft a message, and different types of tools you can use to create infographics.

Introduction to Finding Grants for Nonprofits Workshop - with Carol Eisinger
Are you new to the field of grantseeking? Discover what funders are looking for in nonprofits seeking grants and how to find potential funders in this introductory workshop. You will learn the 10 most important things you need to know about finding grants, including:

  • Who funds nonprofits and what their motivations are.
  • What funders really want to know about the organizations they are interested in funding.
  • How you identify potential funders and make the first approach.

TulipsThe Library will be open throughout spring break with reduced hours. However, the Library will be closed Sunday, April 1, for the Easter holiday. Break hours are as follow:
