Requesting Materials

Finding and Ordering Materials in other Libraries

There are many ways to locate and borrow materials that are owned by other libraries. You can physically go to most area libraries and use the materials there, or go to a partner academic library and use your library card to check out materials or make copies of articles.

To find books and journals in other Libraries, use the WorldCat database to find materials in libraries near you. (Make a WorldCat account and add C.O.D. Library as a "favorite." WorldCat will tell you if we have the books you are looking for.)

Here's some frequently asked questions about requesting materials:

I found a book that I really want to see but the COD doesn't own it. How do I get it?

Order the book through Interlibrary Loan. The C.O.D. Library will order the book for you from the library that can deliver it to us the quickest. Give us as much information about the book as you can and your Library Card number. The Library will call you when the book has been delivered and ready for you to pick up.

I found an article that the C.O.D. Library does not own. How do I get a copy of it?

First, make sure that we don't have the journal by searching for it using the Journal Locator.

If we don't have it, order the article through Interlibrary Loan. You'll need to have the journal title, article title, author and date of publication of the article. Have your library card handy.

How many items can I order through Interlibrary Loan?

As a student, you can order as many Interlibrary Loans as you need to complete your research.

How long does Interlibrary Loan take?

Interlibrary loan of books usually takes 10-14 days. In many cases, articles will be emailed to you so you could have it in as little as 3-5 days.
